Jeep King of the Mountain Series Prepares for Second Race

24 July 2006  |
The Jeep King of the Mountain Series will be in fine company during the next stop of the 2006 Mountain Biking World Professional Championships at Elkhart Lake, Wis., on August 12. As professional mountain biking’s most prestigious event, it only makes sense that the race be included as part of a spectacular line-up that includes the biggest name in the history of skateboarding, one of the most recognizable bands in music, and some of the most dynamic aircraft to ever grace the sky. Jeep owners from across the U.S. will come together to enjoy one another’s company and the camaraderie that can only be found at this unique gathering. Their appetites for excitement will be whet by demonstrations from legendary skateboarding champion Tony Hawk, a concert by the renowned Blues Brothers and a WWII Air Show featuring Mustangs, Corsairs, Avengers and Skyraiders in an aerial display unlike any other. Then it’s time for the main course – the 2006 Mountain Biking World Professional Championships – where 16 of the world’s elite mountain bike athletes will battle for the title of World Professional Champion. These standouts from Australia, The Netherlands, Great Britain and all part in between will go head-to-head on an exclusive Y-cross racecourse for a share of the record $100,000 cash purse and the keys to a new 2007 Jeep Compass. Among the notables include the world’s two top-rated male and female mountain bike racers, Michal Prokop of the Czech Republic and Jill Kintner of Seattle, Wash., respectively. Back to the racecourse…2004 Jeep King of the Mountain World Professional Champion and current competitor Wade Bootes of Australia, known as “Bootsie,” will have a role in the layout of the innovative Y-shaped track. He’ll combine the two most dramatic and popular forms of mountain bike racing into one unique discipline, with competitors beginning the race on separate sides of the course before converging midway into a single course. Along the way, they’ll have to confront banked turns, tabletops, step-down jumps and rollers before the track climaxes with an all-out sprint to the finish. It’s as exciting to watch as it is dangerous to navigate. Best of all, the action from Elkhart Lake will air on CBS Sports on Sept. 24 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. EST! So keep an eye out for the cameras as you may find yourself cheering in front of a national broadcast audience of millions from coast to coast. There’s a reason Camp Jeep for the past 12 years has maintained a reputation as one of the world’s largest and most successful owner’s programs, and the Jeep King of the Mountain Series is proud to be part of this illustrious heritage. www.jeepsports.com
